Catwalk was a mid-scale touring theatre production from Nitro theatre company co-directed with video/projection design by Derek Richards. Written by Malika Booker, it examines issues of race and gender within the fashion industry through the telling of a mystery story surrounding the disappearance of a black model named Salisha. Images mapped to a triptych of vertical flats provided aesthetic, cultural and social subtext and context to the narrative monologues delivered by the cast so that as the mystery of the invisible character Salisha’s disappearance unfolded, so did a range of socio-political themes contextualising fashion and self-image.
